Powerhouse Dynamics, the leading Internet of Things (IoT) solution provider for multi-unit foodservice and retail brands, today announced new subscription-based versions of its “smart” Open Kitchen® platform for restaurants, convenience stores and grocers, and SiteSage® platform for retailers.
Major brands use these platforms to connect, control and optimize their HVAC and kitchen equipment across their facilities. They act on equipment data to drive down energy, maintenance and repair costs; reduce food and energy waste; increase operational efficiency; and help ensure a consistently topnotch guest experience. One Powerhouse Dynamics client has credited Open Kitchen with contributing to $20 million in energy savings across more than 800 locations.
The new subscription model eliminates the capital barrier to accessing these benefits. Clients pay only a simple monthly fee, rather than paying up-front for hardware, installation, and onboarding. The monthly fee delivers Open Kitchen or SiteSage as a service, so it covers the entire solution, including hardware, installation, onboarding, managed services, and software access. Installation is quick—usually a day or less per site—and the return is immediate, with the monthly fee less than the savings delivered.
“Rising energy prices have put more pressure on restaurants, C-stores and retailers to lower their costs without affecting the consumer experience. Connecting their equipment uncovers a wide range of performance improvement and cost-saving opportunities. Our subscription model will enable more clients to enjoy this competitive advantage,” said Jay Fiske, President, Powerhouse Dynamics.
Clients rely on Open Kitchen and SiteSage to improve:
- Energy management, typically reducing per-site energy expenses by 10-20%: The platforms help them catch and fix underperforming equipment, unify HVAC and lighting controls, implement tailored thermostat management systems, and avoid peak demand charges.
- Food safety and quality: Clients use Open Kitchen to maintain optimal storage and cooking temperatures, prevent spoilage issues, and automate HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) reports.
- Preventive and reactive maintenance: The platforms enable facility managers (FMs) to avoid high replacement costs by initiating preventive maintenance as equipment issues surface. They also empower FMs to remotely diagnose problems, and dispatch trucks with the exact parts they need.
In addition, companies use Open Kitchen to support revenue-generating activities, such as automating recipe distribution for popular limited-time-only specials, or optimizing menus based on consumption trends.
