Name: Chris Phillips
New title: Chief financial officer, HTeaO
Previous title: Head of finance and accounting, Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux
Phillips brings more than 20 years of finance and strategy experience to his new position at the emerging drive-thru tea chain, according to a Monday press release. He succeeds Corey Horsch, who was with the roughly 150-unit chain for about five months last year, before departing for Jersey Mike’s Subs, per his LinkedIn profile.
Phillips spent 14 years at Darden in various roles, leading finance and strategy initiatives related to growth and acquisition activity. His most senior position at Darden was senior director of finance and strategy, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He also spent over two years at Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen and was part of the executive team involved in the chain’s sale to Restaurant Brands International, per the release.
As CFO at HTeaO, Phillips will be in charge of finance, accounting, strategic planning and information technology. He will focus on improving the chain’s financial and technology infrastructure and driving insights to support franchising profitability. Phillips will work cross-functionally to execute the chain’s long-term growth initiatives as it expands nationally.
HTeaO has been expanding rapidly beyond its Texas home base, reaching 150 units last year. In 2023, the chain partnered with private equity firms Crux Capital and Trive Capital, which have helped it grow without adding debt or loans to its balance sheet, according to Forbes.
“The brand has built incredible momentum, a deeply engaged franchise system, and a loyal and growing customer base,” Phillips said in a statement. “What stood out to me immediately was the opportunity ahead to help strengthen the financial foundation of the business while partnering closely with franchisees and leadership to support smart, sustainable growth. This is a brand with a long runway.”
