Dive Brief:
- DoorDash has launched a “Going Out,” feature on its app and platform that offers DashPass members access to restaurant reservations, in-store rewards and exclusive offers for dine-in guests, the company said Tuesday in a press release.
- DoorDash said this feature will make dining out “more rewarding for consumers, while unlocking new opportunities for restaurants to attract diners, fill tables and build lasting guest relationships.”
- The ability to book reservations is part of DoorDash’s integration of SevenRooms, which it acquired earlier this year for over $1 billion.
Dive Insight:
Finding ways to attract dine-in guests is becoming an increased focus for delivery aggregators. Uber Eats partnered with OpenTable earlier this year and will roll out a “Dine Out” tab during fall. That tab will offer similar options for users, including finding dine-in deals, booking a reservation and planning a ride. DoorDash also offers the ability for DashPass members to book a discounted ride with Lyft.
DoorDash users can access the Going Out feature by clicking on an icon with two chairs and a table. A map will then show different in-store offers available at restaurants, Parisa Sadrzadeh, vice president of in-store at DoorDash, said Monday at the company’s Dash Forward event in San Francisco. Rewards include bonuses like receiving $15 in DoorDash credits for visiting a restaurant four times. As of September, guests receive an average of $9 in value per order when using such offers, the company said.
Going Out’s in-store rewards will be available at thousands of restaurants in select U.S. and Australian cities for DashPass members. All DoorDash users will be able to try the feature out for a limited time.
In-app reservations will initially be available in Miami and New York, with more cities added later this year.
“Restaurants in these select markets will be able to offer reservations directly in the DoorDash app, tapping into our millions of monthly active users to bring in new guests, and with no cover fees for reservations made on the DoorDash app ever,” Sadrzadeh said.
Restaurants can see data attached to the reservation, including an “enriched guest profile, letting operators know things like whether the guest is local or from out of town, what their dining preferences are and if they’ve ordered delivery before, making it easier for teams to deliver personalized service and build stronger relationships across delivery, pick-up and dine-in,” she said.
In addition to reservation capabilities and guest profiles, SevenRooms also offers voice artificial intelligence to answer calls, take reservations, respond to frequently asked questions and update guest profiles, DoorDash said. Restaurants will also have access to digital event management tools for group bookings, private dining and event spaces.
“The launch of Going Out marks a new chapter in DoorDash’s evolution—expanding beyond delivery to support the full dining journey,” DoorDash said. “For consumers, it means more discovery, rewards, and access to in-person dining experiences. For restaurants, it means smarter tools to help drive profitable traffic and build deeper guest relationships.”
